Animal studies have revealed complex processes of interaction between the mother and her young. As has been shown by Rosenblatt and his associates for rats and cats (Rosenblatt, 1971 ; Schneirla et al., 1963) and by Noirot (1972) for mice and hamsters, the behavior of the mother is adapted to the needs and behavioral capacities of the young.
